June 2021 is a month of blockbuster releases and major gaming events. This includes the debut of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, not to mention this year’s E3 where many highly anticipated games will be showcased. Although we all do get excited for these big titles, it does make things harder for smaller indie games to gain an audience and make their presence known. Fortunately, to remedy this, there is the annual Wholesome Direct event which strives to shine a spotlight on the cutest indie games on the market.
While indie games might not have the large budgets of AAA titles, they often have the luxury of having far less creative constraints. Thus, it is usually the indie realm that produces the most innovation. This has led to the creation of the “wholesome” genre of video games which strives to relax and soothe you instead of raising your adrenaline levels with fast-paced action sequences.
#WholesomeDirect returns on June 12 at 1pm ET! 📺 We'll have new game reveals, exclusive footage, and even games that will launch *during* the show! And thanks to our pals at @GuerrillaCollec, @Twitch, @IGN and @GameSpot, Wholesome Direct will reach even more players this year 🥳 pic.twitter.com/NGy9TrSWyd

Wholesome Direct 2021 will be taking place on the 12th of June, and begins at 10am PT/ 1pm ET. You can expect developer interviews, exclusive footage, and announcements from over 75 indie games. Some games will even launch during the show. For anyone who is a fan of indies, this is an event not to be missed.
The event is sure to reach a much wider audience this year thanks to Wholesome Direct’s partnership with IGN, Gamespot, Twitch and Guerrilla Collective. Indie studios which have been confirmed to be in attendance include the Irish studio Ambertail Games, while confirmed games that will be showcased include the cute farming and creature collecting game Ooblets, and the relaxing B&B management game Bear and Breakfast.
Last year’s event was a great success where several intriguing games were shown off, including Spiritfarer and the cute cat game Calico. If 2021’s Wholesome Direct is anything like last year’s, it will be one worth seeing.
