Earlier today, Sony announced via Playstation Blog that the Star Wars VR series Vader Immortal will be coming to PSVR this summer. The series was originally released as an Oculus exclusive in 2019. Vader Immortal’s three VR episodes as well as lightsaber dojos will be available for purchase all at once. In the Playstation Blog post, executive producer Mark S. Miller described the team’s first thoughts when beginning work on the game.
One of our first meetings began with a whiteboard. We listed out everything that we thought fans (and ourselves!) would most want to experience, if they were inside the Star Wars galaxy. Wielding a lightsaber was right there at the top of that list, but we knew that if we were going to do that, we had to do it right.
In the series, you play as a smuggler near Mustafar who gets thrown on an unexpected journey. Throughout the three episodes, players explore the world of Mustafar as they try to prevent its destruction. Of course, the trilogy finale allows players to face off against the infamous Sith Lord. Vader Immortal’s VR lightsaber mechanics have been praised for their realistic fluidity, as well as the captivating story line. The game won Best AR/VR Game at GDC 2020 earlier this year.
