A film by the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Dan Trachtenberg, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Uncharted has been set by Sony for release on the 18th of December, 2020. Trachtenberg was certainly a welcome rotation into the director’s chair, after Night at the Museum franchise director, Shawn Levy, left in January. This doubles the confirmation of Holland’s casting, who was attached to play a young Nathan Drake in 2017.
With another new draft of the screenplay going forward, the Uncharted Movie starring Tom Holland will be going up against Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. Unless Disney randomly drops another Star Wars Story film to come out for next year’s holiday season, we can be confident that this Uncharted movie will do really well.
Set around the time of Drake’s past explored in parts of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, the film adaptation will act as a prequel to the first entry in the PlayStation-exclusive video game series. As a young treasure hunter, Nathan Drake will be learning the arts of becoming a thief from his newly met mentor, Victor Sullivan. Imagine the dynamic of Batman & Robin in an Indiana Jones-like setting.
Until then, be sure to look out for more news building up to the Uncharted movie release date of December 18th, 2020.
