Titanfall Has 1-2 Developers Working on Security Issues

Respawn has faced some difficult issues of late. Over the past months, games developed by the company have come under attack from cheaters and hackers. While the developers still continue to fix these problems, it has been discovered that Titanfall has 1-2 developers currently working on security issues.

This news comes from Respawn community coordinator Jason Garza during one of his morning livestreams called “Morning Tea.” During the stream, a viewer asked a question regarding the status of Titanfall. The viewer explained that he felt the franchise had been abandoned. Garza reassured fans that the company hasn’t forgotten about the series. However, he also pointed out the challenges moving forward.

He noted the difficulty in revealing the developers’ strategies for combating hackers.

Because now it’s a different type of game with these people who DDoS and stuff like that, and blacklist and things like that, so we can’t telegraph our moves, we can’t say what we’re doing. All I can say is we’re working on it.

Garza continued, “We only have like 1 or 2 people on it because everybody else is on Apex.”

It’s understandable that the developers would want to focus on the extremely profitable Battle Royale. In addition to financial reasons, the game has had to deal with problems caused from hackers as well. After growing frustrations from the community about the current state of Ranked, professional players began the #SaveApexRanked movement in an attempt to help save the game mode.

Recently, hackers managed to take control of Apex Legends and spread messages about saving Titanfall. While these hacks are not a good thing as they prevent fans from enjoying their games, it reveals the severity of the situation regarding game security.

The Titanfall series has had to deal with numerous assaults from hackers already. A quick glance at the Steam page for the original Titanfall reveals a mostly negative opinion of the game from the community on PC. The majority of these unfavorable reviews aren’t because the gameplay is lackluster, rather it’s due to rampant problems with hackers DDoSing entire servers. It will be interesting to see if this small number of developers can manage to solve the game’s crippling security problems.

What do you think of the news that Titanfall has 1-2 developers working on security issues? Do you think Respawn is doing everything it can, or should more steps be taken? Let me know in the comments below.
