In the lead up to the release of The Waylanders this summer, Gato Studio have been unveiling all sorts of exciting new treats. At the beginning of the month, they revealed information on three starting locations, introduced us to the wonderful voice actors, and gave us a look at the character creator. Now, we have a story preview to get stuck into.
The preview starts with a sweeping shot of King Ith’s fleet. We get a glimpse of Amergin during this, in which we can see parts of his rather brazen personality. King Ith (voiced by Ralph Ineson, known for his roles in Game of Thrones, The Office, and many of our TV favourites) takes centre stage in this short teaser. For the most part, the preview offers us a look at the relationship between the king and his son, Lugaid. Their conflicting views on the gods highlights their clash in personalities, and the tension between father and son. This leads to a heated discussion as to whether Lugaid is a suitable heir to the throne.

The Waylanders story preview introduces us to the Celtic lands and the tensions between King Ith and his son.
After the preview, we get to see a little bit of the gameplay that follows the cut scene. A menu opens and we see a codex entry for Prince Lugaid which reads: ‘The son of King Ith and Queen Escota, Prince Lugaid is the Prince of Kaltia and the symbol of the union between Brigantia and Egypt. A warrior and a spoiled drunkard, he is the rightful heir to his father’s throne, but is he the right choice?’. Aboard the ship, we speak to the prince, and he expresses his anger at being humiliated by his father. When the Celtic world is torn apart, we must choose whether to support Lugaid’s claim to the throne, or opt for the more sensible general.
The Waylanders will go into early access this summer on PC (Steam).
