The Waylanders began its journey as a Kickstarter campaign back in October 2018, and since then has progressed in leaps and bounds with the Alpha now in progress. The campaign saw a staggering $168,999 raised in support of the game.
Alpha Testing
On Monday 1st June, Gato Studio revealed that the game has now entered the next stage of tests, and those who pledged for the Alpha add-on during the Kickstarter campaign can now access the Alpha version. Those who pledged for the Beta will be able to play soon.
There are some limits as to how much of the game is available in this version. Only a section of the first act is playable, some of the voice lines and cinematics are missing, and, as with all game testing, there will probably be bugs and glitches along the way.
The Waylanders Alpha testing is under way, a release date is soon to be announced, and Rangers will be accompanied by a pet.
Furry Friends
With the Alpha now under way and the Beta due to start soon, we have also been given a glimpse of one of the playable classes: the Ranger. Rangers will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of pets like dogs, deer, bears, ravens, and more. The loyal companions that accompany a Ranger will have their own abilities and interactions.

Imminent Release Date
Up to now, we have only been given the vague release date of ‘summer 2020’, but Gato Studio recently announced that a new trailer, an early access release date, and ‘hands-on impressions’ would be revealed during IGN’s Summer of Gaming next week. The Summer of Gaming event was due to begin tomorrow (June 5th), but IGN respectfully postponed it to June 8th due the Black Lives Matter protests and to allow for more important voices to be heard. The Waylanders had a spot on June 8th, but it may have been moved to later in the week.
The Waylanders is set to go into early access in summer on PC (Steam). In the meantime, why not check out the interesting characters who will accompany us on our journey, and some of the stunning locations we will be exploring.
