The tease first came through the game’s Twitter account, operated by Obsidian in the persona of the game’s fictional intergalactic corporation, Spacer’s Choice:
Greetings employees of Halcyon,

Greetings employees of Halcyon, The Board is pleased to announce that we have been able to acquire a portion of The Outer Worlds website! Feel free to take an additional 5-minute break today to visit the website, you’ve earned it!
When visiting the game’s website, you’re met with a message reading “Stay tuned for another special message from Spacer’s Choice”. After skipping, you’re presented with another referencing Adrena-Time, one of the game’s drugs that buffs stats to improve movement speed and melee weapon attack speed. If The Outer Worlds DLC doesn’t really have anything to do with Adrena-Time when more is revealed, we’d be very surprised.
News of The Outer Worlds DLC has been a while coming. Back in December, when thanking the community for its various nominations for The Game Awards on the Obsidian forums, the developers vaguely announced their plans saying “the journey isn’t over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date”.
The Outer Worlds was first released on the 25th of October 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC, before being ported to Nintendo Switch on the 5th of June 2020. Our KeenGamer review gave the PS4 release a 9 out of 10, saying “the game builds upon Fallout’s foundation through features like intricate skill trees and the Faults system and delivers an experience that feels surprisingly human despite the faceless, ubiquitous presence of its corporate overlords”.
