Despite all the controversy, The Last of Us Part II sales have skyrocketed this past week. The game is many people’s most anticipated title of the year, but the sales numbers are still mightily impressive. During its first week, Naughty Dog’s latest game shifted a whopping 4 million copies. This makes the game the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive of all time, beating out other massively popular franchises.
God of War was hugely successful, managing an impressive 3.1 million sales in its first three days. Similarly, Marvel’s Spider-Man also sold well, narrowly beating God of War with 3.3 million sales. The Last of Us Part II also beats Naughty Dog’s previous title, Uncharted 4, which sold a comparatively low 2.7 million copies. Sony hasn’t released the first-week sales figures for any of those games, but they must have been below 4 million as shared the news in a recent PlayStation blog post.
This is yet another example that video game boycotts simply don’t work. With The Last of Us Part II sales figures being so strong, we can likely expect another game in the franchise in the future. Congratulations to Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog, and we’re looking forward to more gripping stories from the studio. If you want to know more about the game, be sure to check out our review.
