On the 19th of May 2021, a PS5 patch was released for The Last of Us Part II. As revealed in the Digital Foundry review below, the game now runs at a smooth 60FPS with hardly any frame drops to be found. However, if you prefer to play at 30FPS, the option is still there. The update also comes with enhanced resolution and faster load times.
The game joins a number of other Sony exclusives that have been upgraded to run better on the PS5. This includes Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone and God of War, which all run at 60FPS.
With the PS5 patch for The Last of Us Part II out, fans will inevitably be asking where Factions, the multiplayer counterpart to the game, is. As usual, Naughty Dog has been very quiet about their upcoming project, though they did assure gamers that they are working on it.
While this is certainly not a remaster, it is a free upgrade, so it is welcome. With enhanced resolution, higher framerates, and faster load times, there is no reason not to go back and revisit one of the best titles from the PS4 era.
