Famed Japanese game director Fumito Ueda, recently spoke to gameindustry.biz regarding his future games.
The game director led Studio Japan's teams to bring us games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian. These games were very unique experiences that were able to carve out a very dedicated group of fans loyal to Ueda. It is the passion of such fans that convinced Sony to complete The Last Guardian. The future of Ueda, however, was uncertain, even since the man was working on his last game at the Sony-owned studio.
In the interview, Ueda expressed that he likes to be "intentionally mysterious" with the story of his games. He also went over the game history from ICO to The Last Guardian and how these were linear-open world-linear again. Following that chain, it appears that the Japanese developer is looking to make another open world similar to Shadow of the Colossus as he states, "Now I've completed The Last Guardian and spent so many years in that game, maybe I may go back to the Shadow-type environment." He did indeed spend many years completing The Last Guardian, just about 10. Here's to hoping that it won't take that long for his next game. Check the link below for the complete interview as it's very interesting.

My hope is that whatever he does, doesn’t take 10 years to release again. An evolution of Shadow of the Colossus could be good though.

I think Ueda was just thrown off his stride by the difficulty of skirt animation comment he made about about why Last Guardian had no potential female protagonist. Let us hope that he has an answer ready for that one in his next game, or we won’t see it till PS6.
