After months of waiting for the release date for The King of Fighters XV, SNK has released a video announcing when the title will be available. The game is set to release on February 17, 2022, with features that are set to be part of the main package.
The highly anticipated fighting game was announced to be released this year in 2021 but was pushed back to 2022 due to the ongoing issues with increasing rates of COVID cases in Japan. But that did not stop SNK from finishing the development of The King of Fighters XV as August 26, 2021, SNK released an official trailer for the game.
The game will feature 39 playable characters alongside returning casts from previous games, most notably Team Orochi from The King of Fighters ’97. Not much is told about the plot of the game, but the trailer included two unnamed playable characters that might have involvement in the main story of The King of Fighters XV.
In terms of gameplay, new features such as Shatter Strike, a new defensive feature that defends and counter incoming enemy attacks, and Rush, an offensive feature that allows players to execute combos with simple button presses. The King of Fighters XV includes rollback netcode in the game’s online battle mode as well as other battle modes featuring Ranked Match, Casual Match, Room Match, Team VS, Single VS, Party VS, and Online Training.
And finally, the game features alternate costumes that allow players to change character outfits during character selection as Terry Bogard’s Garou Mark of the Wolves outfit and Leona Heidern’s The King of Fighters ’96 classic outfit are announced as DLC Content as both Early Purchase bonus and Digital Edition Exclusive bonus respectively.
