Through an update on its website and twitter, OtherSide Entertainment announced that Tencent would be assisting in the future development of System Shock 3. The updates offered that the small size of the indie studio was limiting its ability to properly develop the highly-anticipated sequel.
System Shock 3 has been in development for nearly five years and hasn’t been without its share of issues along the way. The game has had troubles with publishers, including the financially distraught Starbreeze. In February 2019 Starbreeze had to drop OtherSide Entertainment, who then was made to recoup any investment costs that had been given to System Shock 3‘s development.
Back in February of this year, System Shock 3 was thought to have been canned after several studio layoffs; however, last month the company reported that it is still moving forward with development for the title.
1/2 We are happy to announce that Tencent will be taking the #SystemShock franchise forward.

2/2 As a smaller Indie studio, it had been challenging for us to carry the project on our own. We believe Tencent's deep capabilities and expertise as a leading game company will bring the franchise to new heights.

Tencent is a Chinese technology conglomerate that has stakes in several large gaming companies, most notably Riot Games and Epic Games. It’s unclear how much or what kind of assistance Tencent will be providing in System Shock 3‘s development as of now.
Earlier in the week, VGC found that ownership of the System Shock 3 and 4 websites had been transferred to Tencent.
