In a move that left many surprised, Shigeru Miyamoto – famed game designer and Nintendo's own Creative Fellow – appeared at today's Apple keynote presentation and announced the development of Super Mario Run, an automatic runner not unlike Temple Run or Sonic Dash. The game will be released this December for Apple products, with a potential release for Android devices at a later date.
Super Mario Run's App Store page went into further details about the game's three planned modes, saying:
"The first mode features challenging courses for you to complete.
In the second mode, you challenge the play data of other people's completed courses. You compete to see who can finish the course with the most style!
In the third mode, you can create your own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected by playing the first two game modes."
At this time, no information pertaining to price or specific release date has been revealed, though it is known that Super Mario Run will not be free-to-play.
