We are once again thrown into the freezing depths of Subnautica: Below Zero with another big update that brings us new base features, Marguerit’s greenhouse, and more. There are plenty of changes for us to sink our teeth into, so let’s dive back in to the icy waters of Planet 4546B and take a look at the new Salad Days update.

Subnautica: Below Zero Adds New Features in Salad Days Update.

Yesterday, Unknown Worlds released the Subnautica: Below Zero Salad Days update, bringing us a myriad of exciting new features. The last update saw the long-awaited story changes come into play with the new narrative direction, and we now have the next stage of our snow-filled journey to dive into.

From PDA entries, to detail work in Alterra’s abandoned bases, and the Radio Tower location, there’s plenty to explore and uncover as you piece together the clues about Sam’s disappearance.

Salad Days Update

Marguerit’s Greenhouse: The Salad Days update brings us Marguerit’s greenhouse. While this could be found in-game before now, it was unused and there was little we could do with it. We can visit the fearsome woman herself in her greenhouse, opening up some new farming options. As well as gathering resources to grow our own plants, we can now interact with Marguerit’s Snow Stalker and make ourselves a healthy salad.

New Base Features: The ability to build and design our own bases has always been a much-loved feature, and the new update has added some interesting items we can add to our dwelling. The Recyclotron allows us to trade in our old, unused crafted items and get back the raw materials. As well as this, we can also make ourselves a thermos to keep our coffee in.

Bridge to the Arctic Spires: The bridge to the Arctic Spires is now broken and needs repairing before we can travel across it. The Arctic Spires has also undergone a few changes. A deceased Ice Worm can be found in the Ice Worm graveyard. This makes it much easier for us to scan the terrifying creatures without the risk of being eaten.

Incoming Call: After Al-An has settled down in our brain, he will be able to call us. Should we be in a situation where we can’t answer the call, we can send him to voicemail, although I’m not sure he’d be too happy about that.

New Animations: With an ever-changing weather system in place, the environment can go from chilly to freezing in moments, and Robin now has some new emotes that she can use in reaction to her surroundings. Along with the player emotes, the Snow Stalkers have undergone another update and we will now be able to scare them off with a flare. While the adults will run, the babies will try to investigate it.

The update has added in some new interactions, including the ability to scare off Snow Stalkers with a flare.

Environmental Changes: The new update offers us a lot in the way of environmental changes. We can explore the new Iceberg Zone which takes us both onto the surface and below the water. As we dive deeper, we will find ice bubbles. These can be cut open with a laser cutter to get some additional oxygen. Improvements have also been made to the Deep Purple Vents, Glacial Forest, and the Arctic Spires with more Architect remnants to discover.

Story Additions: The Frostbite update introduced us to an entirely new narrative, and the Salad Days update has begun expanding on the story with some fresh PDA entries and hidden secrets in the abandoned Alterra bases.

UI Alterations: We can now resize our HUD in the settings, and scale it up or down depending on our own personal preferences.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available in early access on PC (Steam and Epic Store).
