Square Enix has announced the official title for Project Athia today – Forspoken. The action RPG is under development by Luminous Productions and will release next year for the PS5 and PC. Alongside the new trailer, was a more informative post on the PlayStation blog, introducing the world of Athia.
Forspoken is an action RPG where you will take on the role of Frey Holland, an ordinary young woman who must harness her magical abilities to survive in a fantastical and dangerous land called Athia.
The trailer highlights the immense speed the player traverses the world in, alongside quick and stylish combat. Frey will have to “face treacherous trials to unravel the mystery behind the unknown land of Athia”, facing off against gruesome-looking beasts and enemies. Magic is the main form of combat, although those particular details are being kept quiet for now.
Ella Balinska (2019’s Charlie’s Angels), who opened the reveal, is taking on the lead role. Despite this being her first video game project, the development team are extremely confident in her ability:
From the beginning, Ella understood the themes and concept of the game and was able to channel this in her performance to bring Frey’s character to life. Not only is Ella talented and well matched to the role of Frey, but she’s also extremely passionate about Forspoken.

Luminous Productions comprises a number of employees who worked on Final Fantasy XV together. So, despite being the first game from the company, the development team has plenty of experience. However, FFXV‘s director and Luminous founder, Hajime Tabata, left the studio back in 2018.
Forspoken is releasing on PS5 and PC in 2022.
