The trailer shows a combination of gameplay and cutscenes. In the cutscenes we see Cloud in the Honey Bee Inn, what appears to be an establishment based on those found in Tokyo’s red lantern districts. The owner of the establishment, surrounded by dancers dressed as honeybees, declares that, “True beauty is an expression of the heart. A thing without shame, to which notions like gender don’t apply.”
Cloud emerges from the Inn in a black dress, his face accented with make-up and his hair braided with bows. This reveal resulted in the character trending on Twitter in Japan under the hashtag #女装クラウド , which means “crossdressing Cloud.”
As this is a remake and will feature the same plot as the 1997 original, this game has been long awaited by fans. Seeing the iconic Final Fantasy characters and story remade into a modern engine with dynamic gameplay and graphics is sure to make this remake a hit, and could set off a trend of remaking popular old games for the enjoyment of fans, both new and old.
