Square Enix has released a video showcasing extended gameplay footage from its upcoming title, NieR Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139. This video shows off the Barren Temple area alongside the battle mechanics, the main menu and a little bit of the story of the game. From what can be seen in this trailer, it appears that the visuals of the game have been updated greatly from the original that was released back in 2010, as the main character along with his trusty companion Grimoire Weiss make their way inside the sandy temple.
The combat style can be mixed between melee and ranged, thanks to the presence of Weiss who also provides valuable assistance during the fights, quite similarly to how the Pod helped players in NieR: Automata. The boss battle that was featured in the trailer demonstrated just how crucial Weiss’ help will be in these fights as there are areas that the main character simply cannot reach on his own.
The footage also featured some of the side-scrolling areas that will be included in the game, with the main character having to jump over obstacles closely reminiscent to what you would find in a platformer title, while our last view of NieR Replicant – for the time being at least – ended with the rather feisty Kaine jumping in during the boss battle and attempting to finish it on her own. As for what happens next, for those that have yet to play the game, it will take a few more months of patience as the game comes out in April.
Apart from this gameplay footage however, Square Enix also released a few videos in which they give fans a taste of the updated soundtrack, which from what was provided here, will definitely be worth listening to. The songs released are titled: “Snow in Summer” and “Kaine”, while a few samples from Disc 2 of the Weiss Edition were also released.
Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139 is a remaster of the 2010 title NieR Replicant and a prequel to the 2017 game NieR: Automata. The title is expected to be released on 23 April 2021 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
