An interview between The Telegraph and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter, Spider-Man Miles Morales on PS5 is “more akin to an expansion bolted on to an upgraded version of the original title”.
Rutter went into a bit more detail, calling the Miles Morales story as an expansion element:
There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features
As Spider-Man Miles Morales on PS5 turns out to be an improved version of 2018’s Spider-Man on PS4, with a great-looking expansion, it’s more of a transitional title between gaming generations than being an entirely new next-gen experience altogether; though we love Miles Morales as a Marvel character altogether. It begs the question, is such a stage of transition important for developing a new user base from that of the current consoles? When asked the same manner of question, Rutter replied:
I think what is very interesting for everyone to see is how familiar games might be to some degree changed through the workings of PlayStation 5
Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales will be hitting PS5 consoles during the 2020 holiday season.
