Back in April, the team behind the video game movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, listened hard to fans’ heartbreak towards their first trailer. Whilst the film itself didn’t look perfect, it looked at least moderately entertaining, but it was the first design of Sonic himself that made folks across the internet wince far harder than ever expected.
You could see that they were going for a more realistic aesthetic, but compared to the lovable video game character, the film’s protagonist looked more like a talking, disproportionate blue rat.
Originally meant to have been released on November 8th 2019, Jeff Fowler, the film’s director, pushed it back several months, pledging to “make Sonic just right”.
Seven months later, the new Sonic is here, and he’s glorious.
What makes this all the more sweeter is that there’s no Gangsta’s Paradise.
Sonic the Hedgehog spindashes into cinemas February 14th, 2020.
