Hollywood took the deviantART route and turned Sonic the Hedgehog into a furry beefcake. Or the equivalent of it.
Tails' Channel tweeted some photos Los Angeles creative marketing firm Hamagami/Carroll, Inc. leaked Monday evening, inadvertently revealing Sonic's new look, including the one above, for Paramount's upcoming movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, and he does not look like the cute Sonic, Classic or Modern, we all know and love.
Hamagami/Carroll, Inc. touted Sonic's new look as "a new modern take on the brand without abandoning its core essence," and showed off more of Hollywood's vision of the Blue Blur than we saw in the teaser posters back in December. Each pose presented in the slides is based on the poses from the cover arts or concept art renders from a few games. Running Sonic is based on his Super Smash Bros. (Wii U/3DS) render; the jumping while holding a ring pose is based off his Sonic Mania render; and Sonic pointing his finger in your face is taken after Sonic '06.
Paramount seems to have done a fine job of making Sonic as freakishly realistic as possible. His eyes, which are normally oval-shaped pupils on a continuous white, are now split and more rounded. His body is thicker than the original, his chest and torso as flat as a tabletop. And, just as in Sonic Boom, his arms are blue instead of peach. Oh, and let's not forget to mention, his gloves aren't gloves at all, but just big patches of white paint on his hands.
TSSZ revealed another full-body render of Sonic, who looks just as freaky as he does in the style guide, and with a bigger mouth to boot.
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters Nov. 8, 2019.
