After months of leaked images, the first trailer for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film has been released. Since it’s inception, Sonic fans and the gaming community have been dreading what this first trailer will look like. Like it or not, Paramount has released the trailer on Youtube for all to see.

The trailer depicts Sonic making his way through Green Hills, which is now just an urban area of sorts. As we continue, we see James Marsden, as well as the military, attempting to stop him. However, the Military reluctantly has no choice but to bring in its top scientist, Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Marsden’s character, a police officer for Green Hills, manages to tranquilize Sonic. After which, Sonic converses with Marsden and says he has to save the world, which is then followed by Robotnik trying to kill Sonic. From there on, it’s pretty much clips of Sonic and Robotnik fighting, with Sonic using his trademark speed and attitude to stop Robotnik. Apparently, Sonic is now able to use the trademark Golden Rings as some sort of portal. Oh, and there’s a joke about Sonic being a child stuffed into a gym bag.

The reception to it… hasn’t been friendly. As of this writing, the official trailer on Youtube sits at 166,000 dislikes to 117,000 likes. From Sonic’s more human-looking character design (which has already been made fun of) to it’s unfunny jokes, to unfavorable comparisons to the 2011 film Hop (which also had James Marsden interacting with a CGI animal), people are not liking what they saw. Many are still unable to comprehend that this is an actual trailer. The only thing that people are giving praise to is Jim Carrey’s performance as Dr. Robotnik, Sonic’s longtime Nemesis.

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to release on November 8th, 2019. The film will star Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and features Jim Carrey and James Marsden. What did you think of the Live action Sonic Movie? leave a comment below.
