Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne is a post-apocalyptic JRPG where players control a nameless protagonist. At the beginning of the apocalypse, the silent protagonist becomes part demon and gains unique powers. As the world is overrun by demons, the protagonist must fight and decide on the fate of the world. The original PS2 game was incredibly popular, with a director’s cut edition released just a year after the original.
The plot of Shin Megami Tensei V is mostly unknown, other than it takes place in modern-day Tokyo, Japan. The clips shown with Nintendo’s Shin Megami Tensei announcement today show young protagonist riding the subway train, presumably to school. It also shows the protagonist making pacts with demons, part of classic series gameplay mechanic of training and fusing demons to fight in your party.
