If you’ve made a note in your calendar for the release of the upcoming Saints Row game, you’ll have to change the original date, as the game has officially been delayed. The reboot of the popular action-adventure franchise from Volition was originally set to be released February 25th 2022. Unfortunately, Volition have just announced that the game’s release has been pushed back. They have set a new release date for August 23rd 2022, six months after the original date.

The announcement was made by Volition’s Chief Creative Officer, Jim Boone. They stated that they wanted the newest Saints Row game to be the best it could be. With the original February release date, they felt the game wouldn’t be ready in time. They wanted to make sure they had enough time to ensure the game’s quality. They mentioned the fact that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected progress with creating the game, with the team having to work from home. Due to the scale of Saints Row, the team needed more time to perfect the game. Volition are striving to make sure that the newest Saints Row is the biggest and best game. In the announcement, they assured that nothing would change with the story, the characters, or the game itself, including anything that has already been publicly shared.

The release of a video game is, of course, frustrating, especially a game in a beloved franchise such as Saints Row. However, it is very understandable why they have chosen to make this decision. Delays often occur due to setbacks during development, with the creators wanting to ensure the game is polished and ready for release. The last thing anyone wants is a much-anticipated game with bugs and an unfinished feel. Since games do sometimes get released with this unfortunate result, delays have proven to be beneficial, for the creators and players, even if it means a longer wait to play.

The first Saints Row was released in 2006 on the Xbox 360. It proved to be very popular, receiving positive reviews. Altogether, 5 games have been released in the Saints Row franchise, being made available on various consoles and devices. The last game in the series to be released was Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell in 2015, which was a standalone expansion to Saints Row IV, which came out in 2013. The upcoming reboot of Saints Row is set to be the sixth game in the franchise. Revealed earlier this year, Saints Row will take place in the fictional American southwestern city of Santo Ileso, and will once again follow the 3rd Street Saints, this time will a new cast of gang members.
