Rumour: Is Saints Row 5 Coming In 2021?

In Embracer Group's latest earnings call, they mention two AAA releases that have been pushed back to 2021. There's a good chance on of these games is Saints Row 5. An official reveal is expected later this year, presumably during Summer Game Fest.

Could we see Saints Row 5 as soon as next year?

Saints Row 5 hasn’t been officially confirmed, but info coming out of Embracer Group suggests a possible 2021 release date. Embracer Group is the parent company of THQ Nordic. According to their latest earnings call, two AAA games that they expected to release this fiscal year, have pushed back to the next fiscal year. What these two games are isn’t mentioned, but one of them is almost certainly a new Saints Row instalment, expected to be revealed later this year. The reason behind this delay is due to the substantial growth the company has experienced in the current fiscal year; Not a bad problem to have.

“We expect substantial growth in the current financial year driven by a large number of high-quality releases, for which we are excited to the reception among gamers”. “This growth will be underpinned by recent and upcoming new game releases such as Biomutant, Chorus, Deep Rock Galactic, Destroy all Humans!, Iron Harvest, MotoGP 20, Ride 4, Snowrunner, Wasteland 3, WWE2K Battlegrounds and a host of other titles that have not yet started their marketing campaigns.” – Earnings Call

The Right Time For A Saints Row Return

Rumour: is Saints Row 5 coming in 2021 - Saints Row 4 protagonist using flight superpower

Saints Row 4 went all out with superpowers and aliens, making the whole thing feel a bit too silly.

There’s still plenty of Saints Row to occupy your time, however. A remaster of Saints Row: The Third releases on May 22nd, including all the game’s DLC. Gaming events, like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, will take place over the coming months, all online-based due to the coronavirus. If any reveal is to happen, it’ll be here. Embracer Group could hold their own event if they wanted to, considering they have around 69 projects in active development.

A more intriguing question would be what kind of game Saint Row 5 will be? Many felt the fourth game was too outlandish, so might we see a return to a more grounded tale? Rockstar Games is still living large off GTA 5, so that gives Deep Silver some breathing room to manoeuvre. Either way, I’ll be happy to see the Third Street Saints once more.
