What We Know So Far
Nintendo is rumored to be remastering 3D Mario games in celebration of the plumber’s 35th anniversary, according to a report by gaming website VGC. The report states that these games will be released in a collection which includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Also, a “Deluxe” version of Super Mario 3D World and a new addition to the Paper Mario franchise are in the works. It’s unknown if there will be other Mario games in this collection besides the confirmed three. According to the article, when reached out for comment, Nintendo said that it “does not comment on rumors and speculation”.
Are These Rumors Credible?
With the Virtual Console being replaced by Nintendo Switch Online, this collection and rumor make a lot of sense. What remains to be seen is whether these remasters will be receiving more content a la New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Recently, Nintendo celebrated Mario’s 30th anniversary in 2015 with Super Mario Maker. Before that, Nintendo re-released Super Mario All-Stars for Mario’s 25th anniversary. Nintendo has a history of releasing collections like this one and celebrating franchise anniversaries. With that in mind, it seems that this rumor is likely to be a reality.
