Rockstar Insider Claims GTA IV remaster was scrapped

After months of rumors, TezFunz, a credible Rockstar Insider, claims that Rockstar originally had plans for GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remasters. But after the critical release of GTA: The Trilogy remaster, Rockstar decided "not to proceed" with these projects.

Insider claims GTA IV & Red Dead Redemption remasters were scrapped

It’s been quite some time since the rumor mill started spinning about a remaster for GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. After the GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’s announcement, the possibility of remasters for more Rockstar titles didn’t seem so little after all. But as the release of the trilogy remaster was considered a monumental disappointment and a diminisher of the reputation of the iconic trilogy, Rockstar games had the fans in disbelief in a good remaster.

It seems as though that didn’t stop rumors about a remaster for GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. On the 3rd of July, TezFunz, a reliable Rockstar Insider, tweeted:

Tez: As per a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans, remasters of GTA IV & RDR1 were on the table a few years ago, but Rockstar chose not to proceed with the projects in mind. The poor reception of the Trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision.

A reliable source of theirs claimed that Rockstar Games had paved a path for remasters for GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption for a few years now, but after the critical reception of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, Rockstar scrapped their plans likely to avoid damaging their reputation. Considering the pretty good accuracy of leaks and rumors TezFunz had provided in the past, they are a credible source of inside information about Rockstar Games.

Safe to assume that Rockstar Games are way too busy to handle developing remasters on their own since they gave the GTA: The Trilogy remaster to Grove Street Games and the Max Payne remake to Remedy Studios. And since Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption are the two most selling titles for Rockstar Games, It’s not really safe to give the responsibility of remastering or remaking an iconic title that could probably destroy the reputation Rockstar had built over the years.
