Rockstar Games has been known for using licensed music in its games – particularly in Grand Theft Auto. As it turns out, Rockstar announced a new record label made in partnership with CircoLoco – CircoLoco Records.
According to the announcement, CircoLoco Records “will break new ground in an effort to support and elevate dance music culture during one of the most fraught periods ever experienced for clubs and represents an opportunity to elevate the scene through the collective power of these two entertainment brands.”
The first EP, Monday Dreamin’, will release on June 4th, while the full compilation will arrive on June 9th. It will feature new tracks from Sama’ Abdulhadi, Kerri Chandler, Rampa, and Seth Troxler. There will also be a new Dixon remix of Deichkind’s “Autonom.” The Seth Troxler track, “Lumartes,” is out now.
Rockstar Games is no stranger to the house music and nightclub scenes. GTA Online offered digital nightclubs in its After Hour update, which prominently featured CircoLoco artists such as Solomun, Dixon, and The Blessed Madonna. The more recent The Cayo Perico Heist update added a new nightclub with Moodymann, Keinemusik, and Palms Trax – further compiling to the game’s repertoire and party life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the other hand, CircoLoco is among the biggest brands in house and techno. Founded at DC10 in Ibiza, Spain, it started as a Monday night club with a focus on no-frills, music-focused nights. For over 20 years, it rose as a worldwide name in underground dance and fashion. It also jumpstarted the DJ careers of Tania Vulcano, Ricardo Villalobos, Jamie Jones, and more.
