Kyoko and Misako shall return—River City Girls 2 has been confirmed, as announced during today’s Limited Run Games Presentation. If that wasn’t enough, a remaster of a game from the Kunio-kun franchise will also be coming later in 2021. Titled River City Girls Zero, it will be an updated re-release of Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, where Kyoko and Misako made their playable debuts.
Details are sparse, though a Tweet from developer WayForward confirms some details as well as hints at others. Platforms include Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, and the Xbox console family, coming in 2022. Misako and Kyoko will return as playable characters, as well as former secret characters Kunio and Riki. New characters are teased right from the cover art, including Marion from the Double Dragon franchise (who appeared as a shopkeeper in the original game) and a mysterious figure. Finally, two-player online co-op will be available, which the first title lacked.

River City Girls Zero will be coming sooner, in late 2021, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. It will be the first time the base game has been localized for Western audiences. Notable additions to the game include a new anime opening, manga cutscenes (as done in River City Girls), and an additional song by Megan McDuffee, who also composed for River City Girls.

As a little flipnote on the end, it was also announced that the original River City Girls would be coming to PS5. All titles mentioned will be available in physical copies via Limited Run Games.
The original River City Girls released in September of 2019. It is currently available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
