The Resident Evil franchise got itself in hot water due to the poor reception of the sixth main installment in 2012. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard took fans back to its dark roots of zombies ripping people apart. Now rumors started to circulate on the fan site Biohazard Declassified which were reported by the YouTube channel Residence of Evil (the video can be seen below) that claims Resident Evil 8 could feature some familiar aspects to anyone who has played Biohazard, and brand new elements to this world. Along with this video, Eurogamer reports similar details from insiders close to Capcom.
To start, here is everything on what is supposed to be similar to the 2017 title. The big one is the playable character is the same from Biohazard, Ethan Winters, the lone wolf looking for his girlfriend then gets wrapped up in the events that take place in that house in Louisiana. The gameplay will stick to the first-person perspective, which makes sense if Ethan continues to be the protagonist. Additionally, Chris Redfield will make an appearance in some capacity like he did at the ending of Biohazard along with the Not a Hero DLC.
The game’s locations will hold a variety of different places, similar to Resident Evil 4. Players will start at a village then to a castle with a mountainous, snowy environment.
Enemy types will focus on zombies, who have made a return since the remake of Resident Evil 2, with some new foes to face. One involves a woman who sounds rather ghost-like. She will follow you consistently but will disappear when shot. Finally, wolf-like creatures get a mention. Mutated dogs are not unfamiliar territory, but the description has brought werewolves into question from sources like Residence of Evil.
The game supposedly got tested last year, along with a mysterious title that surrounds the eighth entry to Capcom’s renowned horror IP. The name will not feature the number eight; instead, it will have a subtitle that was not mentioned in these possible leaks. So, it will follow something similar to Biohazard if you take away the seven or like the various spinoffs like the upcoming Resident Evil: Resistance.
Capcom has not made any comment on these rumors in any public capacity.
