In case the line-up wasn’t already hyped enough, Nickelodeon dropped news of Ren & Stimpy joining the fray for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. This news comes to us in the form of a trailer on IGN’s YouTube channel, not only announcing the arrival of the raunchy duo, but also showing off some of their moves.

The first bit of action we see from the two is Stimpy throwing a log as his projectile move. We then see the lovable Stimpy swinging Ren upwards as an attack, similar to how Banjo swings Kazooie around in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Stimpy also has a physical tongue attack that we see him use to launch a vulnerable Lincoln Loud skyward. Another clip shows the pair jump into a small car and drive into Lincoln and Michelangelo.

Based on what is shown in the trailer, we can derive that the feline and canine will play similarly to the aforementioned Banjo and Kazooie, with Stimpy taking on Banjo’s part and being the primary attacker, making Ren the Kazooie of the pair, and being used as an alternate weapon of attack. The irony here is that they have inverted roles from their portrayals on their own cartoon, where Ren is usually the one making the plans and moves while treating Stimpy as a subservient underling.

For those too young to have heard of Ren and Stimpy, the cartoon featuring the two first aired on August 11, 1991, and ran until October 20, 1996. Though the cartoon aired on the kid-friendly Nickelodeon network, the show faced many different controversies due to its crude and lewd content, mostly including suggestive and sexual humor, much of which many parents argued was not appropriate for children. These controversies led to many segments of the show being censored either through alteration or complete removal from broadcasting. However, despite all of the outcry and scandal, the show typically produced favorable ratings and is still has a positive score on sites such as IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
