Players will be able to explode things in space when R-Type Final 2 arrives in 2021. NIS Publishing announced today that the game will be released next year for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
The trailer looks insane, and fans of the genre will be excited to see the established gameplay paired with stunning visuals. Throw in the “modern gameplay features” that they keep promising, and fans will no doubt be clamoring for a hard release date.
Of the gameplay features promised are evolving enemies, online leaderboards, and customizable loadouts. There does not appear to be any multiplayer support, whether online or local, so this will have to be one space adventure you take on solo.
The customizable loadout feature is interesting because there are tons of different ships to choose from, and players can change the color and weapon options for each of them. This lets players build the most effective or coolest looking ships they want, and from the looks of things, there’s no shortage of options. Ships from past R-Type games are available to fly, so there’s something here for everybody.
Funded through crowdfunding campaigns held in June and October of 2019, the developers at Granzella Inc. posted monthly updates from July 2019 to June 2020 detailing the development progression. They used their time wisely, and it appears that their hard work will be paying off.
Preorders will also be available soon for the Inaugural Flight Edition, which features the game (for the platform of your choosing), the soundtrack, and a soft-cover art book in a fancy box. There will also be a Limited Edition available at a later date, but there were no details announced at the time of this writing about what might be included.
Players can expect more information, as well as a final release date, as we get closer to 2021. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer for the triumphant return of R-Type.
