Series creator and director Tetsuya Nomura teased in an interview with Famitsu the possibility of a new Kingdom Hearts game coming in 2022. The interview focused on the upcoming Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Magic. A new rhythm action game similar to the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Theatrhythm games. It gave some insight into some of the things we wanted out of the game. Nomura was asked by the interviewer about how Kingdom Hearts III is the end of the Dark Seeker Saga, despite this “… Not all the mysteries have been resolved yet…” and that the secret ending seems to support this.
Well, 2022 is the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts. So we’ll just have to do our best for the 20th anniversary (laughs). I’ve already shifted my thinking to the next installment, and the Kingdom Hearts team is already starting on something new. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a game that comes before the next installment, so the main staff was able to assist with that. In regards to what we will announce from here on out, everything will probably surprise you, so please look forward to it!
Nomura confirms that the Kingdom Hearts team is currently working on something new for the next installment within the Kingdom Hears Series. They're trying to work towards 2022 for the 20th anniversary.

It is unsure if we really will get a new game by 2022. Tetsuya Nomura is also working as the director for Final Fantasy VII Remake. The release of Kingdom Hearts III was affected by involvement with Final Fantasy XV. Suffering development trouble for many years until Its completion. Perhaps Nomura will pass the reigns for Final Fantasy VII Remake on to someone else. Hopefully, they don’t interfere with each other. I sure would like to see a new Kingdom Hearts sooner than later.

Wow, Kingdom Hearts games are like busses, their fans wait ages for one to show up and several show up at once!

I just hope none of those buses crash. haha.
