The Pokémon Trading Card Game is set to have quite the lineup in just a few month’s time. In addition to the rollout release of Shining Fates, it was announced today that we can expect to see the worldwide release of Battle Styles on March 19, 2021.
More of a gameplay mechanic than anything else, this update will introduce two types of Battle Style, red Single Strike, and blue Rapid Strike cards, which can appear as Pokémon, Trainer, or Energy cards. Players can utilize these to build new decks that complement each other in new ways.
Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield – Battle Styles will release worldwide on March 19, 2021, for your regional pricing.
This set is centered around a Pokémon from the Isle of Armor, Urshifu. The above trailer showcases hand-to-hand combat, which is fitting as the new cards affect battle moves. Single Strikes are intended to provide powerful hits that knock out your opponent with one hit, and Rapid Strikes are intended to be sneaky, technical, and hard to anticipate.
The release will include, 60 Battle Style cards, 12 Pokémon V and 16 full-art Pokémon V, 6 Pokémon VMAX, 19 Trainer cards, 6 full-art Supporter cards, and 2 Special Energy cards. They’ll be available to purchase as booster packs or two different Elite Trainer Boxes, which both feature Urshifu.
