With no titles since 2015 (2016 for European players), the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series seemed to be in limbo. Luckily for fans, today’s Pokémon Direct had their debut announcement come as a complete shock to many. The series was back: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will be releasing March 6th of this calendar year.
Sharing the same setting as the original Red & Blue Rescue Team games, DX is billed as a remake for the modern generation. It would make sense that a series that has pre-dominantly seen itself on the DS and 3DS systems would also jump ship to the portable-friendly Nintendo Switch console. With returning characters, environments, and features, DX seems to remain very faithful to its predecessors.
An accessible trailer from the official Pokémon Twitter account can be viewed below:

Obvious differences include the watercolor-inspired graphics that give the series a more distinct style. However, other additional details have been noted by the official Nintendo site, including an Auto mode where players can have pokémon move automatically throughout dungeons until they face enemies in battle. More distinctive details are currently unknown, but one shouldn’t be surprised to find additional details added on.
A playable demo is available to download now for those interested in trying the game out early. If charmed enough, one can even pre-purchase the game for $59.99 straight from the site.
