It was announced earlier today after a series of cryptic image tweets that, after nearly two and a half years of waiting, Pokémon GO will finally be receiving player versus player trainer battles.
While information is still relatively thin on the ground, we do know that the battles will be split into Leagues with each league having limitations imposed upon it.
One tweet from Niantic breaks down the information like this:
"Here’s a breakdown of each Battle League’s requirements:
Great League: 1,500 CP limit per Pokémon
Ultra League: 2,500 CP limit per Pokémon
Master League: No CP limit per Pokémon"
Niantic then go on to say in another tweet that CP isn't the only deciding matter when it comes to PvP and that strategy, especially in the lower leagues, will be just as important.
It seems that any level of trainer can compete in any league as well, as long as the CP of the chosen Pokémon matches the CP limitations of that league.
No information of a release date has been given at this point other than a very exciting (if you are still playing) "Soon"
