It only took a couple of decades, but the long-patient fans of 1999’s Pokémon Snap on N64 will finally get to pull out their virtual cameras once again with the announcement of New Pokémon Snap coming to Nintendo Switch. Shown off during the Pokémon Presents event today, New Pokémon Snap is being developed by BANDAI NAMCO Studios and will feature brand new Pokémon and areas for players to engage with.

Pokémon Company: “Pokémon Snap, which was released on Nintendo 64 over 20 years ago, is coming to Nintendo Switch in a whole new way. We’re hard at work developing New Pokémon Snap for Nintendo Switch. We look forward to sharing more details with you soon.”

For those who aren’t aware, the original Pokémon Snap was a spinoff to Game Freak’s popular monster-collection series, where the aim of the game was to capture Pokémon by taking a photograph of them, and not through battle. The gameplay was on-rails and first-person, giving the game a unique feel amongst the Pokémon titles. Since its release, calls for a sequel have only increased as more and more people have appreciated the idiosyncratic qualities that made the original so charming.

No release date has been announced, but we do know that there will be another Pokémon Presents next week on June 24, so it’s possible we’ll hear more about New Pokémon Snap during that broadcast.
