After 12 years, the PlayStation trophy system will have some changes by tonight or tomorrow, depending on your time zone. On the PlayStation Blog, we get a deeper look at how we will get new levels, a revamped calculation structure, and fresh icons.
Previously, the range for levels was 1-100, but now it will go up to 999. Your level will change automatically with the update according to the trophies you have earned.
“For example, if your current Trophy level is 12, your new level will jump to somewhere in the low 200’s,” writes Toshimasa Aoki, director and product manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “The exact level will depend on the number and grades of trophies you’ve acquired.”
The new calculation structure will allow for new players to level up quickly, while levels overall will go by more consistently. It is meant to be “more optimized and rewarding.” Now there are three tiers of bronze, silver and gold, with platinum offering more value than ever. The icons you see will come with the PlayStation 5 and at a later date for the PlayStation App too. You can see how it all breaks down in the image below:
Like previous generations, any trophies you have earned on PS3 or PS4 will transfer to the PS5. You can see these changes tonight in America, or if you are overseas in Europe or Asia, then it will be tomorrow.
September 16 was the last PS5 event leading to its November 12 release date. We got a look at the next-gen console, the prices between the two, and some gameplay footage of games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
