PlayStation Plus Essentials August 2022 Lineup Revealed

Every month, subscribers of PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold are granted access to free titles that they can play so long as they’re subscribed. Usually, these titles will stay available until the conclusion of the month and when redeemed, are added to the user’s account. August 2022 isn’t any different for PlayStation Plus, for the record, and as of now, the next game lineup has been revealed.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony revealed the full lineup earlier today. That said, given the recent restructuring of PlayStation Plus back in May, it’s now being called PlayStation Plus Essentials. This version is relatively unchanged from what users have been paying to use for years now, so let’s break down what Sony is offering for this month.

The first game available to users in August will be Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. After a rather disappointing (which is putting it lightly) entry in the form of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, Activision sought to make a re-creation of the first two Pro Skater games, which actually turned out pretty well thanks to developer Vicarious Visions. You can watch a trailer for the game below.

Second on the Plus Essentials lineup is the acclaimed Yakuza: Like A Dragon. This title is the most recent in Sega’s long-running Yakuza series and was the first time the series went with a timed console exclusive (and Xbox, at that). It would later also release on PlayStation 4 and 5, with an average rating of 84 on Metacritic. You can watch the game’s reveal trailer below, and after that, read our Like a Dragon review.

Rounding the list out is Little Nightmares. This game was released back in 2017 (2018 for Nintendo Switch), and followed Six, a girl in a yellow raincoat, exploring the platformer and puzzle-driven world, with almost nothing available to fight back with. Little Nightmares also received a follow-up title last year, Little Nightmares II, though that one has you controlling a different character in events that take place before the first. You can watch Little Nightmares’ trailer below and read our review of the title after.

Finally, these games will be available to all three PlayStation Plus tiers (Essentials, Extra, and Premium), and will be available for free starting on August 2nd, 2022.
