Xbox division head Phil Spencer was asked explicitly what he thinks the difference between Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s Project Scorpio is by Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu recently.

Translated, Spencer started by recognizing that describing a console isn’t as simple as dropping a number. Within the development team the keyword for the creation of Project Scorpio has been “balance.” The balance between memory, CPU and GPU is extremely important.

While describing the performance of Project Scorpio with “6 teraFLOPS” is easy, he recognizes that those who have made games for a long time know that it’s not simply a matter of numbers. The main point of Project Scorpio is that it’s very balanced, and Spencer believes that the games that will run on Scorpio will be different from those that we’ll see this year.

Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro will launch on November 10 this year, whereas Microsoft's Project Scorpio will launch sometime in 2017.
