Originally slated for 2020, then pushed back to 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Outriders is set to release on April 1 (no, this is not an April Fool’s joke). What makes this release interesting, however, is that Outriders will release on Xbox Game Pass upon launch. Since Xbox Game Pass is a subscription-based library system, you do not need to pay full price to play it right off to bat. As long as you pay a monthly fee, you can freely play Outriders and a wide selection of other games such as No Man’s Sky, Yakuza 0, and as of recent, a slew of Bethesda titles due to Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda.
Developed by People Can Fly and published by Square Enix, Outriders is a class-based looter shooter akin to Borderlands and Destiny 2. It features four classes with distinct weapons and abilities – the time-warping Trickster, the fiery Pyromancer, the brawling Devastator, and the distant Technomancer.
A demo for the game is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. In addition, the full game will feature cross-play between platforms.
Xbox Game Pass costs $9.99 USD monthly for either PC or Xbox consoles. You can also upgrade to the Ultimate plan for $14.99 USD monthly, which includes perks such as free in-game content, access to Game Pass games on both PC and consoles, and access to EA Play.
