No New Titanfall Game in Development; Possible Cancelled Sequel

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that no Titanfall title is in development and suggests that a 2019 game has been cancelled in a new interview with co-founder Vince Zampella. He does hope "to see some kind of resurrection" of the sci-fi FPS franchise.

In an interview from IGN with the co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, he has said that no new installment of Titanfall is in development. He also suggests that a 2019 entry was cancelled.

“There’s nothing currently in development,” he told IGN. “But it’s always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We’ll see if I can make that happen.”

Back in February of 2019, he teased on Twitter that a new Titanfall game is in development, but now nothing is being worked on from that team. That got backed up in a Q3 financial report from EA where it was said a “premium” Titanfall experience is coming. It is unclear if this was cancelled or under a branch that Zampella does not oversee.

The 2014 debut sold well and received an average of 85 on Metacritic. While its 2016 followup had glowing reviews, making for an average of 87 on Metacritic. But unlike its processor, it was reported that it underperformed commercially

While it had that shortcoming and made the future of any Titanfall development currently uncertain, the studio has had recent success. Respawn Entertainment has had back to back hits with Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Despite the battle royale title might be free, it has earned the company approximately $92 million within its first month. Meanwhile, its space swashbuckler has sold over 10 million copies, surpassing the 6 to 8 million expectation that was set by EA.

As of now, it is suggested that the sequel to Fallen Order is being worked on by Respawn’s Star Wars team. EA hopes to turn it into its own franchise, so it could be the next release we see from the California based company along with more updates to Apex.
