No Man’s Sky: Beyond Update Announced

Since its release back in the summer of 2016, Hello Games' No Man's Sky has been receiving updates that have significantly changed the game over time. Following the last update, Abyss, the developer announced plans for the next major step in the game's development, No Man's Sky: Beyond.

No Man's Sky: Beyond Update Announced
The next big update for Hello Games No Man's Sky, titled Beyond, was announced for the Summer on Thursday, via the game's official website.

The update is, according to a post written by Hello Games' Sean Murray, will be a combination of three smaller updates initially planned to be released separately. It would appear that the idea is to release a major update in the same vein as 2018's NEXT update.

No Man's Sky: Beyond Update Announced: The big feature currently announced is the No Man's Sky Online
"The first component of Beyond we are announcing today is No Man’s Sky Online," said Murray in the announcement. He then goes on to give a bit more detail on the feature:

"No Man’s Sky Online includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. Whilst this brings people together like never before, and has many recognisable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO – it won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players."

Murray also wrote that the feature is "an answer to how we have seen people playing" following the NEXT update, and future details will be coming.

No Man's Sky: Beyond Update Announced: The NEXT update saw many major changes to the game
No Man's Sky's developer Hello Games and Murray, who became a spokesman of sorts for the game, received a lot of criticism following the initial release of the game, with many claiming the game was falsely advertised. Since that time, several smaller updates and the aforementioned NEXT update have generally been well-received.
