As the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD inches ever closer, Nintendo has just announced a new amiibo for the game. The Skyward Sword Zelda & Loftwing amiibo will be arriving on July 16th, 2021 alongside the game. Naturally, you’re probably wondering how Zelda and her loftwing will help you, as the first quest in the series’ timeline unfolds on the Switch in July.

Nintendo has released a short trailer that answers precisely that question by showing it in action. It can be used on the ground, in the sky and in dungeons as a new way of warping around the game world. It’s a little more useful than it may at first sound, as it can also remember the last place you used it.

When used while on the ground, the Skyward Sword Zelda & Loftwing amiibo will warp you back up into the sky. If you then use it again while in the sky, it will return you to the surface at the spot where you originally used it. You can also use the new amiibo to warp to the sky while inside any of the game’s many dungeons.

In the original game, you could only warp up into the sky at special bird statues that also acted as save points during your quest. They could also be used to exit a dungeon if for some reason you needed to. In short, Link can now warp to the sky anytime he wants, and then return to the spot he warped from should he desire to.

Link can also use the new amiibo to warp out of dungeons.

Nintendo’s announcement of the Skyward Sword Zelda & Loftwing amiibo will likely increase some players’ hype for the upcoming game. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is just under two months away now. In the meantime, players have plenty of room left to debate age old questions, like which game has the best Link & Zelda duo, among many others.
