While the Nintendo Switch has seen massive popularity since it’s release in 2017, the system seems to be having a second-wind of sales. It has been well documented that with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing many to spend more time at home, many have turned to video games for entertainment. With a variety of titles to chose from, it is no wonder that new gamers have been picking up the Nintendo Switch for their console of choice. With the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, March 2020 was a very good month for Nintendo Switch sales. The new Animal Crossing boosted sales, selling 11.7 million copies in 12 days after release. The game also already surpassed the lifetime sales goal Nintendo had for the game.
Other popular Nintendo Switch titles have also been a big draw for sales. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold about 25 million copies since release. The second most bought game, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, has sold almost 19 million copies. While these numbers are only for the first sales quarter, the Nintendo Switch sales might continue to climb the longer worldwide lockdown continues.
