With a strong start out of the gate, Metroid Dread has gained best seller status on Amazon in multiple regions. Samus’s next adventure is currently beating out all other E3 2021 reveals. Of course, to be fair, not all of them are available for pre-order yet. Currently, the game is sitting in 4th place in Amazon’s best sellers list (Video Games category) in the US. Only gift cards are ahead of it.

This is a strong start, especially given that Metroid has not historically been one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises. The upcoming mission is Samus’s first new 2D affair in roughly two decades. The last one was Metroid Fusion in 2002. Being remakes, Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Samus Returns don’t count as new adventures.
The new Metroid Dread best seller status is promising for fans hoping it bodes well for the future. For now, there doesn’t seem to be much to worry about, with Metroid Prime 4 also in the works. Furthermore, series producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, has hinted that “Samus’ adventure will continue” in some way.
Beyond Samus’s Metroid Dread best seller status, Nintendo is occupying a number of positions in that list. At the time of writing, the top three positions are gift cards, followed by Samus’s next romp. In the Nintendo Switch category, the game sits in 2nd place in Amazon’s US best sellers list. 1st place is the $10 Nintendo Switch eShop gift card.
The Metroid series is all about exploration and a feeling of isolation in alien environments. The deadly new threat of the E.M.M.I. chasing Samus all over will add to the feeling of isolation and vulnerability. The formidable SA-X in Metroid: Fusion also chased you in a few nerve racking points in the game. However, the E.M.M.I. looks to be a more persistent foe.
