Next month on July 20th, Square Enix is releasing a new expansion for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. It is titled Tale of the Dragon King. The new Stranger of Paradise DLC will feature new gear, new jobs, new missions, and new enemies–seemingly including a fight with the dragon king himself.
The trailer opens with who one can only assume is the Dragon King with a voice over of the main character, Jack, saying, “you will die here, and I will live forever”. Then, it quickly cuts into some battle gameplay featuring shield-clad warriors and new fantastic winged beasts.
Most recently, the game underwent some upgrades to improve performance after a bit of a “hairy” bug that caused the game to drop frames rate as low as 25 fps.
IGN gave the game a solid 8 out of 10 claiming, “Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin’s story doesn’t come together until the final hours, but when it does it pairs nicely with a solid and engaging action combat system and a strong dose of FF nostalgia.”
The new Stranger of Paradise DLC will be available July 20th with the game’s Season Pass. According to Square Enix, you can get the Season Pass through the Digital Upgrade now for $30. However, it is unclear if it will also be available separately. Players will also be able to get the next two DLCs, Wanderer of the Rift and Different Future, through this one-time purchase.
Tale of the Dragon King will be released for PS5/4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
