Fans of the animated show South Park have reason to be excited, as a new game, developed by Question Games, is in development. As detailed in a job listing for Lead Level Designer, the successful applicant would have to have shipped at least one multiplayer game or have equivalent experience. The game will likely be developed in Unreal Engine 4 and intends to have levels with “aesthetically compelling moments and interesting tactical choices.”
Given the nature of the listing, it’s reasonable to assume the project is in the very early stages of development. Bloomberg reported last year that the creators behind South Park, Matt Parker and Trey Stone, had several projects in development as part of a deal between themselves and ViacomCBS Inc for $900 million. Though not confirmed, any video game projects would likely be part of this significantly lucrative deal.
The beloved TV show is no stranger to the video game scene, having released its first title soon long after the show premiered. Titled simply South Park, the game was a first-person shooter featuring the four main characters defeating various enemies before exiting each stage. More modern games have veered towards the growing popularity of RPGs, with both South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured but Hole being released in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
Question Games already have two titles under its belt and have become known for their unique approach to game design. The studio’s most recent game, The Magic Circle, sees its protagonist trapped in a video game, stuck in development hell and features the impressive voice acting talent of Ashley Burch.
