Rumor: New Call of Duty to be “Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War”

Call of Duty 2020's title has been leaked by insider Okami on Twitter. The new Call of Duty is rumored to be Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. How will this prove to be different from the original? Could it be another reboot akin to Call of Duty Modern Warfare?

Rumor: New Call of Duty to be

A reliable source of Call of Duty rumors, Okami (@Okami13_ on Twitter), has given us our first look at the title for Call of Duty 2020. Earlier today, he tweeted a picture of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops cover art with the words “Cold War” photo-shopped on the bottom. Clearly this is not the official art, but it is a hint towards the title of this year’s game. Okami has a good track record with Call of Duty leaks as he accurately leaked the release date of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.

This year’s Call of Duty title has not been officially announced by Activision, and we don’t have any confirmation that Treyarch will be lead developers. Although, since it is rumored to be a Black Ops title, it is safe to assume Treyarch will be the lead developer. If we go by the usual development schedule, it would be Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software’s turn to develop a Call of Duty title, but with the reported tension between the studios, this will not be the case.

With all the rumors that have gone around with the new Call of Duty’s setting, this title makes sense. What is interesting is that the original Black Ops takes place during the Cold War already. Is this a reboot inline with Modern Warfare, just titled differently to help differentiate the two? Or are we seeing some sort of alternate story during the timeline? Call of Duty titles are usually revealed in May, so we should not have to wait much longer.
