Finishing Badges

2K have shown a lot of love to Slashers this year, providing players with regularly featured badges such as “Acrobat” and “Relentless Finisher”, but also introducing critical ones such as “Pro Touch”, a badge that rewards players with good control over their layup releases. Noticeably, “Posterizer” has been replaced with “Contact Finisher” which increases the likelihood of making contact dunks, but also heavily contested layups.

Attack the rim like Giannis!

A noteworthy badge in the section has to be “Slithery Finisher”, as it allows players to dodge heavy contact at the rim. Combine this with “Giant Slayer” and it seems like smaller Slasher type players looking to play like Russell Westbrook could actually work this year. Below are all 18 Finishing badges players can expect to see on launch.

Shooting Badges

A total of 19 shooting badges this year if you want to ball like Steph or KD. A lot of interesting additions here including “Pump Fake Maestro” for Kobe fans and “Green Machine” for players who know their jump shot inside out. If you want to get your shots up quick, be sure to check out “Quick Draw”, as it looks like it will be crucial for a majority of sharpshooters and of course, Stretch 4’s. “Deep Range Deadeye” gets a new name, “Range Extender” but pretty much functions identically to its previous appearances. Surprisingly the badge everyone wanted to avoid, “Volume Shooter” makes a return after last seen in 2K17. However, it looks like it’s been reworked and no longer appears as a negative badge.

Many badges to pick n mix if you want to shoot like KD

Notably, it seems as though 2K are attempting to address the D-pad movement exploit from 2K19, as an alternative method of off-ball movement has been provided with the addition of “Slippery Off-Ball.” I’d recommend Post-scorers and Shot-creators to definitely check out “Deep Fades”, as it looks like this badge that could irritate a lot of your opponents on launch.

Playmaking Badges

18 playmaking badges this year that are bound to excite the dribbling community, and a few in this section that could attract the interest of some big-men/Post-scorers. Check out new badges “Handles for Days” and “Tight Handles” if you’re looking to snap some ankles. A special mention has to come for the “Quick First Step” badge as judging by gameplay from the demo, it looks to be a pretty neat move if you have the badge on the Gold or Hall of Fame tier.

A fair amount of playmaking badges for players looking to be floor generals

Post-scorers can choose from “Post Spin Technician” and “Dream Shake” which I’m certain will be solid go-to moves. “Dream Shake” appears to be a reworked “Up and Under Specialist” type badge, but provides an extra boost for shots taken in the post, ideal for players looking to emulate Dirk and Hakeem’s game.

Protect the paint like AD this year

If you had enough of big-men mashing down low last year, have no fear as 2K have included solid additions for players looking to protect the rim from inside scorers, such as “Moving Truck” and “Post Move Lockdown.” Combining these badges with “Pogo Stick” and “Rim Protector” will certainly lead to a heavily protected paint area. A fair amount to take in but those were all of the badges available as seen in the demo. I’ve had my fair share of disappointing experiences with previous titles, and given that I’m more of a fan of a simulation type basketball experience, I’m not so sure about some of these badges and how well balanced the game will be. However, 2K have to be commended for the effort they’ve put in for the badges section for this season, as it feels like this year has given players the most immersive player creation experience to date. Which badges are you interested in? Are there any you think that could be game breaking? Let us know with a comment below and see you out on the court on September 6th!
