Minecraft update removes references to Notch from main menu

The moment you boot up Minecraft, you're no longer gonna see a splash text mentioning game creator Markus "Notch" Persson on the main menu. The latest update was implemented to remove any mention of his name following an onslaught of controversial tweets written by Notch. They weren't family-friendly by Microsoft's standards.

Minecraft has removed splash texts referencing to creator Markus "Notch" Persson from the main menu in a recent update.

The splash text function on the game's main menu displayed various jokes and references to Notch, but the message's "Made by Notch!", "The Work of Notch!", and "110813!" (a reference to his wedding date, August 13, 2011) have now been removed.

This update initially affected the Java edition of Minecraft, but now it'll be implemented onto console versions of the game as well.

Although Notch sold Minecraft and his game development company Mojang to Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014 due to the immense pressure that came with the game's astronomical popularity, the timing of his name's removal from its menu is worth noting.

Notch has been stirring up controversy online by posting offensive tweets regarding his views on women and the LGBT community. Earlier this month, he wrote a sexist tweet on International Women's Day calling women "an inspiration and a cook." He even wrote transphobic tweets in which he claimed trans women aren't really women at all, comparing it to mental illness.

Notch is still mentioned in the end credits, but considering that the target audience for Minecraft is young children, Microsoft made the right move in terminating his name from the splash text.
